Serving as a volunteer at BELL Garden has been a new and exciting part of my retirement. I’ve found a place to learn, laugh, work with all ages, and see Garden produce benefit the community. I was an educator and teacher trainer with a focus on children and adults who are Deaf/Deaf Blind starting with my first sign language class at age 9. My career has taken me to numerous states (NC, PA, WI, KS, AL). Nashville has been my home for almost 20 years where I served as Associate Professor and Director of the Masters Program in Deaf Education at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I’ve been fortunate to write and receive local, state, and federal grants in special education and related services. I hope to assist BELL Garden as we seek assistance through grant support. I am also a Nationally Certified Interpreter of the Deaf. I’m a Tarheel (NC) with a majority of my family in NC. I’m an avid sports fan and athlete….it comes in handy while doing garden work. Each day provides new opportunities at BELL Garden! I encourage you to join us and make a difference in the community.
